Getting ready for FAMILY DAY

This weekend we are  celebrating Himalayan New Year (Losar) at the museum in a number of unique ways, including butter sculpture (torma) demonstrations. Torma is generally made from butter and flour, mixed with colorful dyes, and are used in Buddhist offering rituals.  In 2010 Latse Library had artists make a number sculptures for their Losar Celebration.

Being the incredible resource that they are (with the coolest Librarians on the face of the planet!) they allowed us to borrow three sculptures for our Family day.  One of the original artists will be on hand to demonstrate torma techniques, and families will be able to make their own versions using clay.
