The Asian Studies Circle met for an initial meeting at the Rubin Museum on April 13, 2011. Evening events included a private tour of the exhibition Masterworks: Jewels of the Collection and a lively discussion on the gallery floors from 5:30-6:00pm with exhibition curator Christian Luczanits. He answered questions about the exhibition that related specifically to courses faculty were planning to teach for the Fall of 2011, such as Art History, World History, and Comparative Religious Studies. An informal discussion followed in the Rubin Museum café.
Professors were particularly interested in learning about the geographic and stylistic migration of Buddhist art from northern India, to Nepal, Tibet, and China.
