National Caregivers Month at the Rubin Museum of Art

President Barack Obama has proclaimed November to be National Caregivers Month, focusing attention on the more than 65 million family caregivers in the U.S. currently providing care to aging or disabled family members. “Care for the caregiver” was one of our goals here at the Rubin Museum when we created Mindful Connections, a monthly program for people with dementia or Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. Mindful Connections provides a museum tour and discussion that caregivers can enjoy—along with those they are caring for—in a calm, safe, and welcoming environment. Our tour guides and docents received training from the Alzheimer’s Association in ways to work sensitively and skillfully with people with dementia or Alzheimer’s. This expertise allows caregivers the opportunity to relax and enjoy the museum experience with their loved ones. Our next Mindful Connections program is coming up on November 18th at 2pm. We invite all caregivers to join us!
