Collaborative Collaborations!

Last Thursday we held our first late afternoon Tour + Workshop for a group of students and their mentors from Partnership with Children. Partnership with Children is a not-for-profit organization that provides emotional and social support to at-risk children so that they can succeed in school, in society and in their lives.

After exploring mandalas, shrines and symbolism in the galleries on their guided tour, the group came over the Education Center to begin their 3-D Mandala Workshop.

Students and mentors sit down to begin building 3-D Mandalas!

After handing out the materials and quietly visualizing a personalized 3-D Mandala. Students and their mentors began to collaboratively problem solve to create their works and overcome the challenges of building a 3-D Mandala with paper!

Working together- this team brings together 4 elements: water, earth, wind, and fire!

It was very exciting to see how different techniques and styles were used at the various tables of students and their adult mentors! We saw different stylistic themes arise from each table!

This group focused on creating strong shapes and letters out of the paper for the center of their mandalas!

This group focused on creating TALL structures that would stand on their own!

After group problem solving, collaborative idea sharing, and 3-D mandala making- students departed for a pizza party- full of ideas and ready to share their new knowledge of 3-D Mandala making with friends!
