Who . . . Will Be America’s Next Top Rubin Museum of Art Education Brochure Cover

With printed ephemera becoming a valuable resource in our Education Department, we’re really focused on getting the most bang for our buck. This is especially true for our Education Brochure which has a limited print run this year. We know that a printed piece is still valuable to the many of our constituents who are not able to download pdfs or visit the web.

We have a standard design template for our brochures at the Rubin Museum, and they generally feature one key image on the cover. As this is a brochure that highlights programs for all ages, it’s difficult to put a real person on the cover, because we’ve noticed (through a lot of testing) that visitors don’t seem to pick up brochures with covers that don’t represent them.

About three years ago we changed the Education Brochure cover to represent permanent collection paintings and they fly off the shelves!

This year our design team provided me with 16 initial options and I have to admit that I felt a little bit like Nigel Barker from AMNT in deciding.

Once we saw the options, we decided that we liked sculptures best, so we recast our model pool of divine objects.

We made sure to take each cover out to the catwalk (or brochure rack) to see who stood out amongst all of the other faces on the rack.

A highly esteemed group of judges helped to narrow down the selection to just two.

Two beautiful Education Brochure Covers stand before me…

But only one can go on to be America’s Next Rubin Museum of Art Education Brochure Cover.

So who will it be?

The welcoming Buddha with the hand outstretched to greet new visitors?

Or the elegant Buddha with an unusual crown?

Stay tuned as we reveal our new cover in April!
