Welcoming every family member

Today is Veterans Day, and I’m thinking about the shared culture of our human race. Every human being has the right, maybe even the duty to learn from the accomplishments and creations of those people who lived before us. I’m dreaming of the day that all museums can offer free admission to all visitors. RMA does it’s best to offer everyone a chance to enjoy the museum at whatever price they can afford. All are welcome to enjoy free admission on Friday evenings from 6-10; on the first Monday of each month all seniors are free; staff of other museums are always free; we offer free admission and tours for public schools; and children under 12 always come in for free; one discount that I am especially proud that we offer is free museum admission as well as all our daily family learning classes free to Cool Culture members. Cool Culture connects about 50,000 low-income families with over 90 cultural institutions, empowering parents and guardians to take advantage of these unique educational resources.

This Monday I attended the Cool Culture Culture fair at the American Museum of Natural History and thoroughly enjoyed meeting with educators from some of the 430 early childhood programs and 90 institutions which partner with Cool Culture. It’s an incredible organization which is doing  the immensely important work of welcoming families to institutions of culture. To learn more about it, visit their website at www.coolculture.org
