Trip to Materials for the Arts

Yesterday, the School Programs team took a trip out the Long Island City to visit Materials for the Arts.  Materials for the Arts  provides  New York City’s arts and cultural organizations, public schools and community arts programs with supplies needed to run and expand their programs. All of the materials have been gathered from a great variety of companies and individuals who no longer need them!  We went to gather and hunt for exciting materials to be used for Art Workshops in the Education Center or for Thinking Through Art in schools.

First we countered a few old friends:

Building Plans for P.S. 90- one of our Thinking Through Art Partners!

and also

Looks a bit like Ganesh!

After perusing the various and fabulous materials that can be found at Materials for the Artswe left with arms full new ideas! What could you create with these new found treasures?

And they're stackable!

These materials will be up to use this Fall by many of the students who will work with the Rubin Museum of Art!
