SEEK Mentors Lead First Peer Guided Tour

Today, two Mentors of Baruch’s SEEK Program (Search for Education, Elevation, and Knowledge) led a group of about 20 of their peers on a tour through the galleries at the Rubin Museum of Art. In September these student Mentors (along with several others) attended a training with the Rubin Museum’s Education Department on how to guide a group of their peers through a museum experience.

The two SEEK Mentors utilized certain works of art in the galleries to relate information they gained in their training to their peers.

The Mentors encouraged their peers to look closely at the art and engage deeply with each piece. While the students roamed the galleries, the SEEK Mentors made themselves available for questions, interpretations, and guidance.

The Mentors also posed questions to the group about experiences relevant to the art, encouraging them to make a deeper personal connection as well as aid in the information of their peers. The peer experience created a comfortable environment which fostered open conversation and contemplation.
